Abstract
Partial mastectomy(PM), axillary lymph node dissection(AD) and radiotherapy(RT) was performed in forty two operable breast cancer patients who had been admitted from April 1991 to April 1993 to department of surgery. Yongdong Severance Hospital
in
order
to get better cosmetic appearance and survival rate. Of forty two patients, 98% were T1 lesion T2 lesion. Extenisve intraductal component(EIC) within or around the tumor was also analyzed. Thirty three percent of the patients were EIC positive.
Mean
number of axillary lymph nodes was 20.1 after PM with AD and 19.8 after mastectomy. Frozen sections were done at the operating room to achieve negative resection margin microscopically. For radiotherapy, 4,500 rad was delivered to the breast
parenchyme
and 1,600 rad of boost to the primary tumor site using electron beam method few weeks after surgery. One patient had breast recurrence 13 months after operation and treated by total mastectomy. All the other patients except one breast recurrence

been living well without any local recurrence and satisfied with breast preservation for twoyear follow-up period We concluded that the advanced technology for breast cancer treatment using PM, AD and RT can be a good alternative of conventional
